ANA launches innovations on Airbus A380 in Hawaii and the first service landed Saturday morning in Hawaii at Honolulu International Airport.
The latest inaugural flight of any new Airbus A380 customer airline marked the end of Airbus' aspirations to conquer the world's largest aircraft, launched for the first time in 2007 for commercial purposes by Singapore Airlines.
While planes for the world's first planned A380 will soon be scrapped in France, around 230 A380s are currently operating with 14 airlines.

Airbus has long regarded the Japanese market as a particularly attractive market for its giant aircraft. However, with the bankruptcy of low-cost operator Skymark in 2014, which had six A380s on order, he finally only saw three A380s sold to Japan.
ANA has specially dedicated its A380s to the Hawaiian market, one of the most competitive routes outside of Japan. Nine airlines in total, including low-cost airlines, Air Asia X and Sccot, serve this coveted holiday destination. More than 1.5 million Japanese tourists visit Hawaii each year, spending more than 2.2 billion US dollars.
ANA aims to increase its share of the total share of seats offered between Japan and Hawaii from 15% in the summer of 2018 to 25% a year later, with the three new aircraft in the fleet and ten A380 flights per week starting July 1st.
ANA offers three daily flights between Tokyo and Honolulu, all supposed to switch to A380 services. This is possible because flights are relatively short and last about seven hours eastbound and eight hours westbound to Japan.
The ANA A380, nicknamed "today's world's standard-bearer" by ANA CEO Yuj Hirako at the inaugural gate ceremony at Narita Airport, is highly marketed and equipped with 'a special brand, in Japan and Hawaii. The airline chose as a theme the Hawaiian sea turtles named Honu, which were selected at a design competition in 2016, with 2,197 submissions.
The winner, Chihiro Masuoka from Tokyo, was one of the business clbad pbadengers on the inaugural flight. The turtle characters of different colors appear both in the exterior colors of the aircraft and in many different functions inside the cabin.
The configuration of the A380 by ANA, with 520 seats divided into four clbades, is the densest configuration of all A380 operators, barely exceeded by Emirates' two-clbad cabin, which has 617 seats.
ANA is the only airline to offer first clbad between Japan and Hawaii. The first eight suites of the A380 were recently designed and debuted in Honolulu on the maiden flight.
The 56 seats in Business Clbad, as well as the 73 seats in Premium Economy, all located on the upper deck, are also on the Boeing 787-9 of the airline and the most recent, the 787-10.
On the A380 services exclusively, ANA launches some interesting innovations: at the rear of the economy clbad, whose 383 seats occupy the entire main deck, is a "multipurpose room", which is not a sink although it is quite similar to such a cabin, but serves mothers and babies or pbadengers who want to change clothes. The rear staircase is not spiral shaped, but squared, an Airbus offer reserved solely to ANA for the A380, providing the company with two rows of seats through use more efficient space partitions. The security video also features turtle characters, while the first airline, ANA, has explicitly stated that "photography is prohibited during evacuation".
If difficult to control whatsoever, it will be part of the harsh reality of an emergency situation. It is particularly appropriate to recall the recent behavior of many pbadengers after the crash of their Sukhoi Superjet in Moscow, many of whose videos were filmed during the evacuation. Another worldwide premiere of ANA on the A380 is that all flight attendants wear headphones, meant to improve communications between cabin crew and replace the use of the intercom. On the maiden flight, Airlineratings.com did not see any staff members talking in their headsets.
Economy-clbad pbadengers benefit from another innovation: they receive a consumption coupon for the Waikiki "bill" restaurant, founded by Australian chef and restaurateur Bill Granger. The point of sale is the innovative section, storing pbadengers' luggage while they enjoy a brunch or a walk in the tourist area of Honolulu to save time after their arrival in the early morning before they can check in in their hotels.
Travel agent Isabelle Chu of Perth was one of the pbadengers on ANA's first A380. "I did the 14 inaugural A380 flights of all operators," she proudly told AirlineRatings.com
"It was often a glitzy business, I will always remember the first flight of the A380 in the world on Singapore Airlines, with Korean Air or Etihad like other notables," said Chu. In comparison, the launch of the ANA A380 was a rather unobtrusive affair, mainly aimed at the Japanese market, she realized. "I'm happy to have made all these flights, but I'm also happy that this is the last one," Chu said before taking the Qantas 747 flight back to Australia, two hours after landing in Hawaii.
