Anas Aremeyaw Anas
Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas expressed his frustration at the level of apathy of the Ghana Police Service regarding an investigation into the murder of his murdered colleague, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
Hussein-Suale was shot dead on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, but Anas was not satisfied with the progress of the investigations and so began his own research on the murder.
In an interview with the International Press Institute, Anas said that even though he was initially optimistic about the police investigation, the police now developed cold feet and realized minimal progress.
"We [everyone involved in the investigation] were all targets – and we are still targets, "Anas told IPI.
"Ahmed was a target because of the football investigation, I'm not surprised, judging by the power of football and its political implications. There is some degree of apathy within the police – people are not strong enough. "commented Anas.
"We do not find a solution to murder, it's a power game, football players are very rich people (and) there are powerful sources that guarantee that we do not find the murderer."
The ACE investigator stated that his Tiger Eye PI team was not afraid of the death of his colleague and would continue to report wrongdoing.
"Ahmed is dead and we continue to tell difficult stories," he said. "It is a testimony that Ghana will definitely remain the beacon of democracy.People have a strong will.People defy the government. And it is the future of democracy."
"Out of the pain of his death, we are motivated to leave a lasting impression on his memory and to tell things as they are.We are not at all discouraged. We are confident. We are able to do more than what we usually do ".
