Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has launched an online petition to collect signatures in order to pressure the Attorney General to sue the former president of the Ghanaian federation, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
In October 2018, FIFA banned Nyantakyi from suspending all football-related activities for life as a result of various violations of the governing body's code of ethics, including corruption.
Nyantakyi, a former FIFA General Council member, has been found guilty after being filmed by Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team in a hotel room that appears to be receiving a $ 65,000 bribe. A businessman supposedly seeking to sponsor the Ghanaian football league. He was also fined $ 498,000.
The prosecution said that existing laws on corruption in Ghana do not leave enough room to prosecute football administrators in the country.
Anas has since launched an online petition to lobby the Attorney General so that he takes the case in hand.
"The police have completed investigations into the likely criminal behavior cases of Mr. Nyantakyi. They presented their findings to the Attorney General last year. The Attorney General has not taken any action to date.
"Please, help us ASK the Attorney General to move this case forward. Mr. Nyantakyi should be subject to criminal prosecution for some of his faults, which are on the verge of crime.
"We send letters, make calls, send social messages to all government entities, which can help us move this business to the next level. We also go to the media to help spread the word.
"If Nyantakyi is not prosecuted, our collective fight against corruption will not make any sense. It will also send many citizens the message that the law only concerns the poor, but that the rich and the powerful can not be held responsible for their actions.
"Please, sign this petition, take the requested action and share it with everyone you know to advance this issue." Thank you very much for your help in this urgent matter, "said Anas in a statement urging the public to sign the petition.
