Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas expressed his frustration at the level of apathy of the Ghana Police Service regarding an investigation into the murder of his murdered colleague, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

Hussein-Suale was shot dead on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, but Anas was not satisfied with the progress of the investigations and so began his own research on the murder.

In an interview with the International Press Institute, Anas said that although initially optimistic about the police investigation, the police have now developed cold feet and made only minimal progress. .

"We [everyone involved in the investigation] were all targets – and we are still targets, "Anas told IPI.

"Ahmed was a target because of the investigation on football. I'm not surprised, judging by the power of football and its political implications. There is a certain degree of apathy within the police: people do not have enough strength, "commented Anas.

He added, "We do not find a solution to the murder. It's a power game. Football people are very rich people (and) there are powerful sources that make sure we do not find the killer. "

The ACE investigator stated that his Tiger Eye PI team was not afraid of the death of his colleague and would continue to report wrongdoing.

"Ahmed is dead and we continue to tell difficult stories," he said. "It is a testimony that Ghana will definitely remain the beacon of democracy. People have a strong will. People are defying the government. And that is the future of democracy.

"Out of the pain of his death, we are motivated to leave a lasting impression on his memory and to tell things as they are. We are in no way dissuaded. We are confident. We have the ability to do even more than before. "
