Scottish captain Andy Robertson did not lose hope to face Kazakhstan on Thursday despite the team's missing flight for surgery.
The left-back traveled to Glasgow after Liverpool's Premier League win at Fulham on Sunday, but was invited to stay on the spot to heal an abscess as his international team-mates left late at night.
Scotland face Kazakhstan in their Euro 2020 qualifier this week and badistant coach Peter Grant admits Robertson is still "desperate" to get involved.
Grant said, "It's a hard blow. We were obviously prepared for that. Before Sunday's game, we knew he was struggling a bit, but he wanted to play.
"And the way he is, he's always desperate to play and always tries to get back here too. That's how he is, that's why he was chosen as captain. But it's a blow to us because it's a fantastic player.
"But we've always talked about Kieran (Tierney) and Andy, who's going to play here and who's going to play in. The beauty is that we have two fantastic players, and you're never going to get everyone in shape. But look at the quality you need to enter if it's in top form. "
When asked if Robertson would participate in Sunday's game in San Marino, Grant said, "I hope he'll join us here." He will take care of his teeth problem today and we will take it from there.
"Toothache is one of the worst problems you can face, but he is so determined to be part of it. He wanted to go out last night.
"He showed that just after the match he had taken off just how desperate he was to be here. But when it was checked, it was not possible.
"If it was other than Andy Robertson, you would say there is no chance. But knowing what Andy is, if he thinks he has a chance, there is always a possibility. We do not exclude it. "
