Jürgen Klopp congratulated Andy Robertson after his left-back became the last Liverpool player to commit to his long-term future by signing a five-year contract.
The Scottish captain had little time to agree on a new deal – an obvious decision, according to the player – just 18 months after his arrival for what can now be considered a good deal of 8 million pounds sterling. Hull relegated.
Robertson follows Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Joe Gomez who have all signed new contracts in the last six months.
Klopp was delighted with the speed of the agreement: "I think of all the contract renewals I have attended, this one was done in almost record time.
"He may be from Glasgow, but everything about him is Liverpool. It was fantastic to see him grow, develop and improve. Everyone knows his personality, on and off the field, but we may be guilty of sometimes neglecting his quality. "
After a slow start to Anfield, Robertson dominated Alberto Moreno at the left-back position and emerged as the centerpiece of Klopp's team, which now leads the Premier League.
"I'm hoping to succeed as a team during this new deal," Robertson told liverpoolfc.com. "This club requires trophies and too much time has probably pbaded without trophies. So I hope to help bring another couple to this club and go in that direction because the fans are asking for it and the club is asking for it, that's what we want to give.
"We came close [reaching the Europa League and League Cup finals in 2016 and Champions League final last year] but it's a question of taking that step and getting a winner's medal around your neck. As soon as the club came to see me, it was obvious to me – I want to stay here, so as soon as they put an offer on the table, it was signed as fast as that. "
