Angelina Jolie opens up about Brad Pitt and Harvey Weinstein

The Guardian ran a long profile actor, director, author and activist Angelina Jolie this weekend, with the two Jolie and writer Simon Hattenstone make their appearance damn trying to make the play as much as possible about Jolie’s passions, her new book on UN guaranteed children’s rights and her work promoting the struggles and heroism of activists and refugees in areas like Syria and Afghanistan. But, especially in light of Jolie’s long custody difficulties with her ex-husband Brad Pitt over their six children, and her connection to the subject of children’s rights.– it was probably inevitable that stuff from Angelina Jolie, famous Hollywood actress crept in, and, probably just as inevitably, it’s the kind of thing it’s pretty hard to look away from once it’s in the ether.

Specifically: Jolie talks about Harvey Weinstein, whom she says assaulted she at the beginning of her career, towards her role in the years 1988 Play by heart. “I worked with him when I was young,” Jolie says, “If you walk out of the room you think he tried but didn’t, right? The truth is that the attempt and the experience of the attempt is aggression. It was over a pass, it was something I had to escape. Jolie says she did her best to warn other young women not to work with Weinstein and turned down a role in The aviator because of his involvement. Her husband at the time, however, was less willing to take similar positions; Nice note in the profile that, “Of course, it hurts ”when Pitt chose to star in the film produced by Weinstein Inglorious Basterds, and brought Weinstein on board as a producer on a movie in 2012. “We fought over it.”

Other elements of Pitt in the interview are more circumspect, at least in part because the legal issues surrounding the custody struggle are still ongoing and, in part, have inspired his writings on children’s rights. “I’m not the type of person who makes decisions like decisions that I had to take lightly,” she notes, alluding to the divorce and her allegations of abusive behavior against Pitt. “It took me a long time to be in a position where I felt I had to separate myself from the father of my children.

The end result is a mess, but striking, Profile, we are often obliged to speak obliquely of Jolie’s personal connection to the book she is striving to publicize and promote.
