Anglogold sentenced to pay to drowned employee's family GH 9 M

The late George Emil Baffuor died one month after the expiry of his contract, while he was submerged by the waters of the flooded mine while he was carrying out feasibility studies in a conveyor of the Adansi mine of AngloGold Ashanti.
The team's efforts to quickly get out the means of water transport failed because the team lost communication with the winding motor driver.
It later appeared that AngloGold had miscalculated the 75-foot water level, a situation that resulted in the conveyor's immersion, resulting in the death of George Baffour.

The plaintiffs claimed that the deceased had died because of the gross negligence of the multinational mining giant.
They claimed that on October 22, 2015, the deceased had been selected from a team of AngloGold Ashanti Ghana and Randgold Resources Limited, which had entered into an investment agreement to redevelop the mine. Obuasi and to penetrate underground in a conveyor connected to the underground mine Adansi of Anglogold. in Obuasi.
According to the complainants, Anglogold officials allegedly telephoned Joyce Baffour, the deceased's wife, around 11:00 am on October 22, 2015, to inform her that her husband had been involved in a fatal accident in the underground mine. .
The plaintiffs claimed that it took about seven hours before the body of the deceased dead was found and deposited at the Anglogold Ashanti hospital morgue.
They claimed that a police report and an autopsy report had subsequently revealed that the engineer had died when his conveyor had been submerged. The autopsy report indicated that the cause of death was drowning "asphyxiation".
According to the plaintiffs, the engineer died "because of the negligence and / or breach of an obligation on the part of the defendant, his servants, agents and badigns".
