Some angry young people from Donkro-Nkwanta, in the municipality of Nkoranza Sud in the Bono Est region, almost lynched the town’s chief, during an outburst on Thursday April 1.
The aggrieved youths alleged that Nana Owusu Acheaw Brempong II had freed acres of land to Chinese expatriates to undertake illegal mining activities in the city.
But the Bono Est Regional Security Council (REGSEC) chaired by Mr. Kwasi Adu-Gyan, the regional minister and other security agents intervened to save the situation.
Calm has returned to the region, however.
Addressing the town’s chiefs and residents, Mr. Adu-Gyan advised young people against any lawless behavior, assuring that REGSEC would investigate the case and make sure the right thing was done to preserve the prevailing peace. in the city.
Nana Brempong II told the regional minister that he was shocked by the allegations and admitted, however, that the Traditional Council of Nkoranza, lord of the city had released 1,500 hectares of arable land in the region to foreign investors without his knowledge.
The regional minister and his entourage then visited the alleged illegal mining site and no mining activity was underway, but acres of cashew, plantain and cassava farms in the region had been cleared.
