Vasyl Lomachenko will defend her lightweight WBA and IBF belts against Anthony Crolla after the two teams have agreed to the fight on April 12 in Los Angeles.

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed this news, which has now been ratified by the World Boxing Association.

"The two gladiators are complying with the order given by the WBA championship committee to wage a battle with each other and thus avoided the auction call," a statement said.

The formidable Lomachenko was looking for an opponent for a while. The mandatory challenger Crolla still suits.

After learning his luck, Crolla was confronted with unusual questions on social networks. Some skeptical fans think he fought knowing that he can not win. A strange reaction, even from some British fans.

Crolla is defended by saying, "I started getting hit on my nose during nights like this 23 years ago. I'm not an idiot and I know it's a huge challenge.

"But on April 12, I'll be in the best physical and mental shape and go to LA to shock the world! I am looking forward to doing it, "added the Manchester man.

Lomachenko won the title in 2018 by defeating Jorge Linares during a stoppage. He later unified the division against Puerto Rican Jose Pedraza by unanimous decision.

Crolla, himself a former leader of the WBA, won the title in 2015 against Darley Perez. He then defended his title against Ismael Barroso of Venezuela.

Two losses against Linares followed and seem to be the reason why some choose not to give Crolla a chance to win.

MILLION BUCKS

"Million Dollar", however, has wins on Ricky Burns, Edson Ramirez and Daud Yordan. He enters the fight with a big pedigree.

In a very short and magnificent career, Lomachenko is 12-1 with nine knockouts. Crolla is 34-6-4.

Over the next few days, the teams should send the contracts to the WBA to finalize the transaction.

The fight should be broadcast on ESPN in the United States and Sky in the United Kingdom.
