Matt Upson thinks that Anthony Martial may be Manchester United's "future" and that the "wellness factor" around the club has brought him to almost accept a new deal.

Martial is about to conclude an agreement with Manchester United on a new five-year contract, according to Sky Sports News.

Martial has been a regular starter with United's new manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and former England defender, Upson, thinks the boss change has had a positive impact on the 23-year-old.

"I think the factor of well-being around Manchester United has certainly contributed to the development of these contract negotiations," he said.

"Since Jose Mourinho left the club, the cloakroom and his entourage are completely different.

"It's very positive for him, he's a great club to play in. The fact that he plays a little more center or front in the last two games of Solskjaer really helped him.

"It's a sign for me that they're progressing and, especially with Marcus Rashford, these two could be the future in this central position for them."

The former boss of United, Jose Mourinho, would have been ready to part with Martial last summer.

Upson added: "He was indifferent to Mourinho, like many players, but if they get something consistent and he's happy, they have a very good player.

"It's definitely good for Anthony Martial and Manchester United."

Manchester United will look for a seventh consecutive win under Solskjaer when it hosts Brighton on Saturday.
