Martial has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season

Anthony Martial has the talent needed to reach Cristiano Ronaldo's level, according to Manchester United interim director Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The French striker opened the scoring with Paul Pogba and achieved a superb second place in Saturday's 3-0 win against Fulham.

Martial's goal, which caused him to flee from the center line, led former United captain Gary Neville to compare him to a Ronaldo winner at Craven Cottage in 2007.

"It has similarities, of course," said Solskjaer.

"It was late in the game and we played a very bad game and Cristiano scored it," he added about his former teammate's goal in a 2-win win at 1.

Ronaldo won eight major trophies in his time at United and scored 118 goals in 292 games.

"If he knows how to be at Cristiano's level, Anthony knows what he has to do," said Solskjaer. "It's up to him to decide, he has the talent."

Last month, Martial signed a new contract keeping him for at least 2024 years, after appearing to be leaving this summer, after losing the favor of many spells headed by his former boss, Jose Mourinho.

Aged 23, who became the most expensive teen in history when he signed Monaco in 2015 for £ 36 million, has started six of the eight Premier League matches since Solskja took over from Mourinho, scoring twice.

"I'm happy he's part of my team," said Solskjaer, who will face Paris St-Germain at Old Trafford on Tuesday in the first leg of the last 16 games of the Champions League.

"He has contributed to so many chances, so many goals, he is a Manchester United player, he excites the crowd, he excites the manager, he excites his teammates, and he is a great character around the place."
