Hundreds of Queenslanders have shared their disgust in front of a public billboard located outside a Sunshine Coast gym that would have grossly shamed people to join it.
At all times, Kawana's Fitness heats up a lot above a humourous outside sign that says, "Are you fat and ugly? Just be ugly.
The unfortunate attempt at humor from the gym franchise has left many upheavals, while people claim that shameful messages make the overweight local residents become members.
"WILD AND HORRIBLE"
Debbie Can said to the Sunshine Coast Daily she was "horrified beyond explanation" when she saw the sign.
"How sad that the word fat continues to be used as an insult and a way to define people," Ms. Can told the newspaper.
"Why are humiliating people funny?"
Many people were in agreement with her, arguing that the sign was "wild" and "horrible".
Another woman disapproved of the poster's warning, saying, "No, I'm fat and gorgeous, and I'll stay both, thank you."
"It's horrible," added someone else.
The gym officially opened in May and is looking to increase the number of members.
Do not be ashamed of fat
Ms. Can stated that the move was a hurtful ploy on the part of the gym to advertise for free.
"I can tell you that as a person who is neither slender nor clbadic, this gym is the last place I would set foot if I actually chose to go to the gym to do that. of exercise, "she said.
"I wonder if they know that people can be" healthy and fit "regardless of their weight?
She said to the Sunshine Coast Daily health was "not dependent on a number on a scale" and the gym would never understand the difficulties faced by overweight people.
"Being ashamed of this is a surefire way of including anxiety, depression, and eating disorders into the list of problems," Ms. Can said.
"… eating disorders are the leading cause of death for our younger generation in Australia today, but do people think it's fun to place such signs?"
THE GYM ANSWERS
Although the gym did not respond to news.com.au's request, he visited his Facebook page this morning to gauge his members' feelings about it.
Post a clip from Today's show, the gym staff asked its members, "Have we gone too far?!? What are your thoughts? "
The question received several messages, congratulating the team for its "free advertising" shot.
"Great Australian humor and reaction, free advertising, bravo," wrote a man.
Another member of the gym said that he thought the message was "hilarious".
"And I have to lose a few pounds, that brought me here lol," he wrote.
Another supporter said that a word came to his mind when he thought of the display: "Brilliant".
Others have also seen the expected humor in the bulletin board.
Some have dubbed it the "sign of the year," claiming that his message was accurate and absolutely hilarious.
Others have described the joke as "Australian humor at its best," while another man complained that people had to stop being so precious.
One woman, who claimed to be overweight, said she liked the sign.
"I'm overweight and I'm not special, it's great and honestly tempting," she wrote.
Another man agreed, asking, "When did we start being so thin and offended by everything? Calm down and go for a walk!
Hundreds of others applauded the person who had this idea by saying that it was "genius".
"Smart, and now they get free advertising," said a woman.
