Presidential communications director Eugene Arhin called the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for claiming that the first and second ladies; Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Samira Bawumia, received salaries from state coffers.
Mr. Arhin, who refuted such a claim, insisted that TUC apologize for the apparent blunder.
While sharing its views on the controversial presidential spousal allowances, the TUC in a declaration dated July 11, 2021, and signed by its Secretary General, Yaw Baah, stated among other things that “salary arrears dating back to January 2017 have since been paid to the wives of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, in accordance with [Ntiamoa-Baidu] The committee’s recommendation which was endorsed by NDC and NPP MPs.
Mr Arhin, who disputed the statement by the TUC General Secretary, said: “He was clearly wrong, because none of these ‘back pay’ has been paid. ”
“So can he do what is necessary and apologize to the First and Second Ladies for this false statement?” the director of communication of the Presidency posted on his Facebook page.
