Legal expert Martin Kpebu played down appeals to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to challenge the general election results in court.
The lawyer argued that such appeals are unfounded, given that the party has the right to resort to other legal options such as protests, to challenge the results of the polls.
“I’ve heard people say they should stop the protests and go to court. This is a very naive statement. You cannot decide for them how they want to proceed with their business. It is their constitutional right to protest, ”he said on The Big Issue.
Mr. Kpebu also indicated that the NDC protests could be an attempt to generate “public sympathy” following an unfavorable election.
The NDC alleged electoral frauds which they claim influenced the outcome of the 2020 presidential elections.
As a result, widespread protests by NDC supporters took place in different parts of the country, a recent one near the Election Commission headquarters saw around 26 people arrested.
The NDC has already indicated that it will not rush to court to seek redress.
He said he would consider seeking redress after verifying the numbers from all polling stations and gathering all relevant evidence relating to the election.
