Apple hires Tesla engineer Steve MacManus

Apple hired Steve MacManus, at least Tesla's third technical manager, to join the technology giant over the past year.

MacManus, Tesla's vice president of interior and exterior car engineering, recently left the automaker and has since joined Apple as senior director, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He joined Tesla in 2015 after stints at Jaguar Land Rover, Bentley and Aston Martin.

His interior design skills could be applicable at Apple beyond the development of a car.

Apple did not respond to a request for comment on Monday.

The tech giant also appealed to Tesla's former vice president of driving systems, Michael Schwekutsch, in March and former chief vehicle engineer Doug Field last August.

Apple and Tesla have hired engineers from each other for years, sometimes creating tension. Tesla CEO Elon Musk Calls Apple "Tesla Cemetery" in 2015 German Newspaper Interview Handelsblatt.

Some industry badysts and investors have speculated that companies are entering into a partnership or even Apple are acquiring Tesla.
