George Clooney and Brad Pitt are set to star in a thriller for Apple TV +, and their deal would have required a theatrical release before airing.
The latest big film deal for Apple TV +, after “Emancipation” and “Raymond and Ray”, is an untitled thriller from writer / director Jon Watts. The only known plot details are that the film is about two “lone wolf repairers” who are assigned to the same job.
According to Deadline, Apple beat six other studios, Universal, Warner Bros, MGM, Sony, Lionsgate and Annapurna. It also beat its streaming rivals Amazon and Netflix.
It’s unclear what Apple’s offer for the film is. However, Deadline says that between them, Clooney and Pitt have turned down an eight-figure sum in favor of a deal ensuring a “robust” theatrical release.
Previously, Apple reportedly spent $ 70 million on Tom Hanks’ film “Greyhound”, and a record $ 120 million to purchase “Emancipation.”
Apple’s most recent high-profile film acquisition was “Killers of the Flower Moon”. This will air under the Apple Original banner, but Paramount will distribute it in theaters first.
