Apple on Monday announced plans to celebrate New Years Eve with a new special Peanuts game that will be released in December.
Entitled “For Auld Lang Syne,” the special is a Peanuts TV original that features a new story involving the usual cast of characters including Charlie Brown, Lucy and the gang, reports Variety.
The upcoming original Apple TV + is the first vacation special to come out of a partnership with WildBrain, Peanuts Worldwide and Lee Mendelson Film Productions late last year. Breaking with tradition, the film is the first Peanuts TV special not to include Charlie Brown or Snoopy in its title, the report notes.
Due to arrive on December 10, the Peanuts New Years Eve special follows the group of friends after finding out Charlie Brown’s grandmother is unable to visit him, prompting Lucy to throw her own party, according to the report. Charlie Brown is also trying to complete a resolution before midnight.
Alex Galatis and Scott Montgomery made up the story, which was written for the screen by Galatis, Montogomery and Clay Kaytis. Kaytis is credited as a director, while Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano are the executive producers. Paige Braddock is producing for Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates alongside Josh Scherba, Stephanie Betts, Amir Nasrabadi and Anne Loi for WildBrain Studios.
Apple’s agreement brings all titles from the Peanuts library together under the umbrella of Apple TV + and opens the door to new content such as “For Auld Lang Syne”. Last year, the company announced that it was planning special offers for Mother’s Day, Earth Day, and back to school. The streaming service has already debuted, winning the Daytime Emmy Award, “Who Are You, Charlie Brown”, “Snoopy in Space” and “The Snoopy Show”.
Like last year, Apple TV + airs the fall classics “It’s the Big Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” while making those same titles available on PBS. and PBS Kids.
