President Nana Akufo-Addo has asked some former ministers in his first administration to lead their respective ministries until his next ministerial appointments are approved by parliament.
The president’s directive was not well received by Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu.

In his view, the order was illegal and that there is no such thing as the “interim” or “titular” minister citing the decision in the JA Mensah v Attorney General case in 1997.
The former minority leader insisted Akufo-Addo was sadly wrong.
Iddrisu’s observations caught the attention of private lawyer Martin Kpebu, who shared a divergent view of evolution.

Citing the same case, Iddrisu leaned for his submission; Kpebu said the Supreme Court ruled that in this case the president has the right to appoint certain people to act as ministers until his candidates are approved by parliament.
Meanwhile, the NDC has said it will not recognize Nana Akufo-Addo as president of Ghana.
The NDC flag bearer in the 2020 polls, John Dramani Mahama, rejected the election result as stated by the President of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.
He filed a petition with the Supreme Court to, in its terms, dispel doubts in the minds of Ghanaians about the credibility of the electoral process.
Akufo-Addo garnered 51.302% of the vote to defeat Mahama, who polled 43.359%.
The vote difference between the two candidates was 517, 231, or four percentage points, one of the highest since 1996.
