Appointment of MMDCEs; How long will we continue to be in limbo?

The Alliance For Footsoldiers Advocacy (AFFA) noted with deep concern the unprecedented delay of the government led by President Akufo-Addo in announcing a list of heads of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District (MMDCE) executive during the his second term in accordance with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution.

As recalled, the president, acting through his chief of staff, Akosua Frema-Opare, issued a statement on January 11, 2021 asking all MMDCEs appointed during the first term of his administration to remain in office. “until further notice”. “You should take note of the provision in Article 14 (5) of the Presidential (Transitional) Law (2012) which states that you must not take a decision on a political issue,” part of the statement said.

AFFA believes that local governance seems to have been stifled by this development, since those [MMDCEs] currently in interim positions were prevented by the Presidential (Transitional) Law (2012) from making political decisions in their respective jurisdictions.

Therefore, through this press release we call on His Excellency President Akufo-Addo to hear the cry of infantry and Ghanaians who are about to see the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government cede power, the January 7, 2025, to speed up the processes by urgently announcing a list of competent and diligent MMDCEs to carry out its mandate at the local level to move the country forward.

Long live the nuclear power station, long live Ghana!

Sir Obama Pokuase

Executive Secretary, AFFA.
