Arjen Robben accused Florentino Perez of leaving Real Madrid a decade ago.

The Dutch became surplus when Madrid started their second Galactico era in the summer of 2009, when Cristiano Ronaldo joined for £ 80m.

But the 35-year-old thinks that leaving the Bernabeu after just two seasons has proven to be a blessing as he is preparing to bid farewell to Bayern Munich after a decade of service.

"Florentino Perez came back as president and then bought Ronaldo and Kaka, Benzema and Xabi Alonso," Robben told Diario AS.

"They spent so much money and told us that they needed to make money with sales.

"It was a shame because I had a very good relationship with [former coach] Manuel Pellegrini, and maybe I had the best pre-season of my career.

"I found it difficult because of the change of president in Madrid. I felt really comfortable there and played very well, but when the policy comes into play and you have no chance, you have to decide if you want to continue to beat you or continue your career elsewhere.

Robben moved to Bavaria in the last days of the transfer window in August 2009 and has not regretted it.

In 10 years, he won eight league titles and scored the winning goal in the 2013 Wembley Champions League final.

He admits: "I wanted to prove that I was pretty good and my move to Bayern was the best decision of my career."
