Seven orphans abducted from an orphanage on the outskirts of the Nigerian capital Abuja two weeks ago have been released.
Armed men stormed the orphanage in the Abaji region on January 23 and abducted children between the ages of 10 and 13.
Some adults who were abducted from their homes during the incident were also released.
Police spokeswoman Maryam Yusuf confirmed the publication to the BBC without giving details
The abductees were released after a ransom was paid, according to a person who was part of the group that received them, but the woman who handed the money to the gunmen was taken hostage.
They appeared exhausted after being released on Sunday and were taken to a health facility for treatment, witnesses said.
Nigeria is grappling with a wave of kidnappings for ransom. Reports suggest that in the past week alone, around 100 people have been kidnapped in attacks in Kaduna, Niger, Katsina and Taraba states.
Captives held in the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna state were released over the weekend, with a report suggesting a ransom was paid.
