Armed robbers attack the Deputy Minister of Education; 5 wounded

Five people were shot and wounded as a result of the attack on Dr. Osei Adutum, Deputy Minister of Education, and other people were badaulted in Sarikyikura, on the highway. Tamale Buipe.

Police, in a statement viewed by MyNewsGh.com, revealed that the wounded were currently at Tamale University Hospital responding to treatment while a hunt had been launched for suspected thieves wearing the number 7.

According to the DSP Mohammed Yusif Tanko, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Region Police (PRO), the thieves also fired into the vehicle the Vice Minister of Education who was traveling from Bolga to Kumasi but was escaped unhurt.

The incident occurred on July 22, 2019 around 5:30 pm and the police patrol team from the road was called, but the suspects managed to escape into the bushes as soon as they saw the police arrive.

According to the victims, the suspects were about seven (7) dressed in a military uniform.

"They fired indiscriminately at a cargo truck traveling from Buipe Market in Damango with pbadengers on board hurting five (5) people during the process. The victims are treated at the University Hospital of Tamale.

Police in the region are currently conducting a thorough investigation of the incident and therefore asking the public to provide information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
