Armed thieves kill an ambulance driver; Sexual assault of a paramedic and thief in labor | Social

The Director General of the National Ambulance Service, Professor Ahmed Zakaria, revealed that the armed thieves who shot an ambulance driver not only robbed a pregnant woman during labor, but also sexually assaulted an ambulance attendant who was was in the vehicle.

Abraham Tetteh Homeku was attacked and shot dead more than six times by armed thieves at dawn Thursday while transporting a pregnant woman from Akuse government hospital to East Koforidua regional hospital.

He was rushed to Korle Bu University Hospital where he died on Saturday.

In an interview with News of joyProfessor Ahmed Zakaria said the incident had affected the work of the ambulance service with low morale.

According to him, people were initially trying to rationalize that the thieves may have mistaken the ambulance for a police car due to the blurry siren, however, the thieves’ actions after realizing the vehicle was an ambulance show how insensitive they are.

“… For armed thieves to come close, identify it as an ambulance, shoot the driver and still shoot the vehicle, force the patient compartment to open, see a patient lying on a stretcher under the supervision of a paramedic and stealing and mistreating them is something that we still have to come to terms with. We never thought such a thing would happen.

“After all, they made the poor lady go and cut the engine because they felt the siren and the beacon were drawing attention. So now the paramedics and the patient were in the patient compartment and normally it is locked. They had to force open the door, shoot the vehicle, force it to open, steal the poor girl her phone and everything on it, stroke her chest… There were two of them, the driver who is a man and a paramedic assisting the patient. As for the driver, he was shot in the eye and in the head and so he would certainly have passed out and therefore with his head on the steering wheel with his seat belt still in place, he could not move at all. So now they had to force the poor girl out of the patient’s compartment to go stop the engine all this time with a gun pointed at her head, which is traumatic as it will be very difficult for the lady to recover immediately unless psychological support, ”added Professor Ahmed Zakaria.
