A man was arrested after the collision between a train and a car at a railway crossing in Leicestershire.

British transport police said the accident had occurred at Kirkby Bellars, between Melton Mowbray and Leicester, early in the morning.

Officers said that the driver was cleared after the vehicle crashed into gates and that he was later arrested for drunk driving.

Network Rail said that the disturbances on the line had been dissipated at 09:00 BST.

There are no reports of injuries.
