The arrest of the National President of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, had been arranged to avoid an outcry from party members, according to one of his lawyers, Abraham Amaliba.

According to him, another agreement with the police provided that Mr Ofosu Ampofo would not stay at the CID of the police for more than one hour. The head of the CID, however, violated this decision when the national president was detained for five hours, causing disturbing calm.
