Arsenal boss, Unai Emery, wants to engage players like Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool are currently leading the Premier League title with two points thanks to a 3-1 victory over Southampton and Virgil van Dijk has played his part again.

Although he was not the best player on the field for the Reds, he was a stabilizing force from behind in the second half, allowing Liverpool to retain its defensive appearance and win the match.

Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson scored for Liverpool, but Van Dijk is a key member of the team in every game.

It's something that has not gone unnoticed by his team, his fans and even the players and managers of the opposition.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery was the last to congratulate the Dutch central defender. His kind words were revealed at the return of a discussion about the type of players that the Gunners must sign to compete again for silverware.

"I think we can improve first, by spending money to reach the players," Emery told Goal.com.

"In the past, the club has done a great job of watching players, finding and signing young players, and developing our players in the academy.

"I have a lot of respect for our work, for our players in the academy. I want to develop the players here – giving them progress to achieve something in a big club like us.

"We can also reach (buy) players who are part of other teams, who can come here and give us that performance – like Van Dijk with Liverpool."
