Arsenal carried the ball while Alexandre Lacazette is the subject of an additional ban of two matches of the Europa League

Alexandre Lacazette will miss both legs of the Ligue 1 Arsenal semi-final match against Rennes after UEFA imposed a new two-game ban on the red card against Bate Borisov.

Lacazette received a direct red card in Belarus last week for throwing his elbow into Bate Aleksandar Filipovic's face.

The French striker was therefore unavailable for Bate's comfortable 3-0 win on Thursday, and UEFA has decided to extend his ban to future matches against the French club Rennes.

This is a blow for Arsenal and Unai Emery, who see the victory in the Europa League as a true path to football in the Champions League next season.

Lacazette is the club's second-leading scorer this season, with 12 goals. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has 18 goals this season, but no other Arsenal player has hit more than five times under Emery. Arsenal's third top scorer remains Danny Welbeck, who has not played since his long-term injury in early November.
