According to Arsenal, Andoni Zubizarreta (Marseille) would replace Sven Mislintat as the club's sports director.
Mislintat, who became the sniper's chief of recruitment in November 2017, left his post in February and residents of north London have not named anyone since.
However, according to the French publication L'Equipe, Arsenal would be interested in bringing Zubizarreta to the club to replace the German.
The newspaper claims that Zubizarreta is frustrated to have made little progress in his current role and is tempted by the opportunity to help Unai Emery rebuild the Arsenal group.
Raul Sanllehi, who worked alongside Zubizaretta while the two men were in Barcelona, reportedly said it would be a good thing for his former colleague and that Emery would approve the partnership.
It is in the club Camp Nou that Zubizarreta has made known by signing including Javier Mascherano, Cesc Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez, Jordi Alba, Neymar, Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in Barcelona.
The sports director also impressed in Marseille, with Dimitri Payet and Mario Ballotelli, the outstanding names he helped bring to the club.
Before leaving his post at the Gunners, Mislintat was part of the team that brought Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the UAE. The Gabonese striker has scored 17 goals in 30 Premier League matches this season.
