Arsenal have announced the departure of another first-team player.
The January transfer window will remain open for another week and the Gunners continue to downsize their first team while adding two new faces.
Sead Kolasinac has joined former Schalke club on loan, while William Saliba spends the rest of the season in France with the Ligue 1 team from Nice.
Meanwhile, Matt Macey’s move to Scotland’s Hibernian side was confirmed shortly after – making it three Arsenal departures before mid-month.
Three became four when Sokratis was released from his contract and the latest exit from Emirates Stadium was confirmed this weekend – and it was highly publicized at that.
Mesut Ozil, who was not listed in the Premier League or Europa League squads this season – ended his move to Fenerbahce with a free transfer.
Ozil’s exit could affect Arsenal’s recruiting plans for the remainder of the January transfer window.
With Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu both agreeing that a creative midfielder should be the Gunners’ priority this month, Martin Odegaard is expected to be on loan from Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Arteta also hinted at signing a left-back, which sparked links with Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand.
That said, the idea of both players joining Arsenal before the window closes hinges on the club freeing up a few more spots in their 25-man squad in the Premier League.
At present, there are no non-local slots available after Kolasinac’s release as its spot has already been taken by Mat Ryan, who has joined on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.
And because Macey was one of five local players included in the squad, Bertrand would be eligible to take his place if the Gunners were able to strike a deal.

However, as Ozil has not been named to the squad, so there is no room to take.
Therefore, Arteta and Edu face a big decision.
As it stands, Arsenal would not be able to register Odegaard unless he is able to sell or remove another non-local player who has been named to the squad.
