Midfielder Arsenal Granit Xhaka hopes to return to action as soon as possible after his groin injury.

The Swiss international missed Monday's 2-0 win against Newcastle after undergoing a "small" training session last Friday.

"We started Friday with bad news for Xhaka, he has a small injury and can not play today," said Emery after the victory at Emirates.

Arsenal will face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday as they seek to consolidate their place in the top four.

And it looks like Xhaka is aiming for a comeback this weekend as the midfielder confirmed on his Instagram account that he was working hard to convalesce.

"I'm working hard to get back to the field as soon as possible," Xhaka said.

The Spurs' 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace allowed Mauricio Pochettino's team to overtake the Gunners to return to third place.

However, Emery's team has a game in hand and can restore the two-point confidence of its rivals with a win at Goodison Park on Sunday.
