Former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere criticized the club's decision on William Saliba and Wilfried Zaha's "ridiculous" pursuit.

The Gunners are waiting to announce the signing of the adolescent defender Saliba in the coming days after agreeing to pay 27 million pounds sterling to Saint-Etienne.

Saliba must pbad a medical examination in the UAE, but will immediately be loaned to the French club before joining Arsenal next summer.

Unai Emery is desperate to reinforce his defensive options and Aliadiere does not understand why Arsenal would spend £ 27m for a player who would not play for the club before a year.

"It's on the defensive that Arsenal has the most need to strengthen themselves. They are about to sign the French international under-20 Saliba," said former striker at 888sport. .

"But I heard that they were going to sign it and then lend it to France for a season, so I'm a little surprised that they're spending about £ 30 million on a defender and returning it immediately.

"I do not understand this type of business.

"I do not know if we can afford to buy a player for the future, we need players to come in and improve the team now, because that's where we've had difficulties."

Aliadiere, who spent nearly a decade at Arsenal but was always on the sidelines of the first team, also criticized Zaha's pursuit by the Gunners.

Arsenal has made Zaha the main goal this summer but has so far presented "ridiculous" and "disrespectful" offers to Crystal Palace, which values the Ivorian international at around £ 80m.

"It has been rumored that Arsenal wants Zaha, for whom Crystal Palace weighs 80 million pounds and we would have offered them half the money," added the Frenchman.

"If this is true, it seems a little ridiculous and could be perceived as disrespectful to Crystal Palace."

Arsenal did not want to meet the valuation of 80 million pounds of Palace, which only has 45 million to spend in transfers this summer, unless the players are released.

Aliadiere said, "It's frustrating to see a club like Leicester, which in all respects is a smaller club, spending up to 75 million pounds this summer.

"Yet Arsenal apparently can not afford to spend the money that Leicester can. It's hard to understand where the money goes.

"I remember when we moved to Emirates and Arsene Wenger told us that money would be stuck in the stadium over the next ten years, so transfer fees would be a bit limited.

"But it's gone and the stadium has been paid, but you can understand the frustrations of the supporters when it is reported that there is only a £ 45 million transfer budget."
