Arsene Wenger opened the way for Virgil van Dijk, defender of Barcelona's opening goal, as part of his 3-0 demolition work against Liverpool.
Luis Suarez opened the scoring for the Catalan giants in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal after losing Van Dijk.
The former boss of Arsenal, Wenger, told beIN Sports: "They are physically stronger than Barcelona, especially in terms of pace.
"Barcelona did two or three yellow cards because they could not even run with the Liverpool players.
"But when they enter the last third, the Barca has this quality – a chance, a goal.
"It's very interesting because Virgil van Dijk [usually] covers, but he should go with Suarez to achieve this goal.
"Especially from a central back with that quality … he lets him go.In the beginning, his position is not bad, but he refuses to answer.
"It's a great goal because the cross is fantastic.For a striker, it's ideal, it's a wonderful football."
Wenger was not the only expert to have criticized the failure of the PFA player to follow Suarez.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand said on BT Sport: "Virgil van Dijk here, he is at fault, he can see Suarez there, he points where he wants.
"It's your man, the number nine on the back of his shirt, static." Virgil van Dijk, "static." And it's criminal in this position.
"He must be [Joel] The eyes and ears of Matip. Move Matip to where you want to stop the ball in the first place, but otherwise you have to go with your man.
"And he'll be disappointed with that, I'm sure."
