Arsene Wenger revealed that he had tried to bring Jadon Sancho to Arsenal.
Sancho, 18, has been shining at Borussia Dortmund since arriving in Germany from Manchester City in 2017.
The teenager is now a regular in the English group and continues to storm the Bundesliga.
Things could have been very different, with Wenger attempting to take Sancho to Arsenal when it became apparent that he would seek to leave Etihad.
"I wanted to sign Man City when he was not playing," Wenger said on beIN Sports.
"I tried to lure him because he was coming from London, I tried to take him to Arsenal.
"He's one of the best players of his generation, he can dribble, he's arrogant, there's something that's big players.
"You can call it trust, belief, arrogance, but it must be there."
Wenger then suggested to young players around the world to earn too much money before even making a name.
"The pressure on these young boys from an early age is very strong.
"They make a lot of money before playing games, which does not improve the hunger index.
"It's a test because they're rich before playing."
Arsene Wenger talked about beIN Sports.
