Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his wife, Lady Julia, publicly took the COVID 19 vaccine on Tuesday at Manhyia Palace to build public confidence and encourage everyone to participate in the immunization exercise.

The Asantehene did not make any statement after the exercise but was overheard saying to nurse Lydia Owusu Ansah, a public health nurse at the regional health directorate: “You are finished. But it is not. is not at all painful, ”he said.

His move was to officially start the inoculation exercise in the Ashanti region where 150,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine are to be administered.

Dressed in an all-white fabric to signify “Ekradware yes“(soul cleansing), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was cheerful throughout the short ceremony as Mamponghene, Nana Osei Bonsu
and the Mamponghemaa, Agyakoma Difia, joined him in the exercise.

Previously, the president of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr Frank Ankobea, had warned that the vaccine does not replace adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

He said that while the vaccines were safe, they were not complete proof of preventing the spread of the virus.

The GMA chairman urged Ghanaians to continue to regularly wash their hands under running water with soap, disinfect their hands and observe social distancing to help stop the spread of the virus.
