A grbad cutting ceremony, chaired by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, was held to begin the construction of a 9-storey alumni hotel at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The facility should be able to accommodate the growing number of students enrolled in the institution.
Saturday's Asantehene has also commissioned other projects such as the GUSS Sports Complex, the Beach Soccer Park and the hospital parking lot.
The ground-breaking ceremony held on Friday 19 April 2019 was part of the KNESS Chancellor's Day activities in honor of Otumfuo on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary. .
Samuel Freduah Agyemang, CEO of Safi Properties Limited, the company selected for construction, said the hostel should be completed within eight months.
Mr Freduah Agyemang hinted that after the installation of the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) hostel, it will accommodate at least 1,000 students.
Msgr. Divine Adjei, Chair of the Board of Directors of Safi Properties Limited, welcomed the support of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Obiri Danso, to the activities and projects of KNUST.
Mgr Divine Adjei promised that the company would ensure that all completed projects change the infrastructure of the university.
