Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak
Some members of the National Democratic Congress of the Asawase constituency said they had petitioned the National Executive Council of the party after failing to submit the nomination form for Masawudu Mubarick, one of the candidates for the party's parliamentary primary in Asawase.
Mr. Mubarick's application forms were rejected by constituencies and regions pending disciplinary action against him.
His appointment was also rejected at the national party's headquarters on Friday.
Yesterday, at the close of nominations, the Functional Leaders' Committee indicated in a letter that grievors should seek resolution of their grievances.
Addressing Citi News, the NDC youth coordinator at Asawase and a supporter of Masawudu Mabarick, Fatiu Saliu said the group had already followed the NDC's advice.
He added that they were waiting for the result of a petition sent Wednesday to define their next line of action.
"When we realized that it was not possible for us to drop here in Kumasi, we then decided to go to the regional level. When we arrived in the region, the apology for which they did not accept our candidacy is that there is an outstanding petition from the same person who wishes to submit his candidacy so that it can wait. "
We strongly believe that at the end of the day we will be able to apply once the national leaders have considered the issue. "
Mubarick cries
Mubarick Masawudu believes that the positions of some party officials indicate that they wish to prevent him from challenging the outgoing MP, Muntaka Mubarak.
He spoke after finding the locked party regional office when he arrived at the scene Thursday afternoon to file his nomination form.
"I have chosen forms and I am here to submit them, but it is unfortunate that the party office is closed, whereas they are supposed to work from morning till night."
Supporters of Mubarick Masawudu held a rally Friday at the NDC's regional office in Kumasi, where they burned car tires and posters of national leaders and former president John Mahama.
