Four people have been confirmed dead in the flooding that hit parts of the Ashanti region on Monday evening.

According to the National Disaster Management Organization, four bodies, including two nine-year-old children, have been found, but two others missing in Ahenema Kokoben have still not been found.

At least ten lives have been lost due to flooding in the region since the start of the year. In Kromoase, a nine-year-old boy who had gone to play in the rain with two others, drowned on Monday.

In Daban, another girl of the same age died. The third incident and one other death were recorded in Sokoban.

Administrator at NADMO, Nana Attakora Koduah confirmed the deaths.

“Our men are still on the ground and are teaming up with the community to find all those missing,” he said.

“The number we have so far comes from our men on the ground.”

Almost three hours of torrential rains left part of the Kumasi-Obuasi road inundated for hours.

Two still missing were among a group of three who joined a KIA truck but jumped as flooding pushed the vehicle to the wrong side of the road.

The flood left many people stranded for more than three hours. Residents blame poor construction and construction in the waterways for the flooding.

This is the second time that the region has been flooded this year. Other parts of the city have witnessed similar incidents. In Nhyiaeso, near Ahodwo, neighbors managed to save a man in his forties from drowning.

His van was dragged into the creek after losing its balance in the flood. Part of a newly constructed bridge collapsed due to increased flooding.
