On Friday morning, the Ashanti Regional Police Command rescued an alleged Indian businessman from kidnappers in Akokoamon, a community near Parkoso in Kumasi.
Prakash Chudry, 31, was reportedly seized by force by three unknown men on Thursday night at Ahodwo roundabout.
The suspected kidnappers later called friends and relatives of the victim to ask for 500,000 US dollars for his release.
Godwin Ahianyo, the regional police's public relations officer, told Kumasi's media that the police had worked tirelessly all night with key players such as telecommunication companies and related security agencies to help the victims.
He added that the kidnappers managed to escape while the victim had been sent to the hospital for a medical examination.
ASP Ahianyo said the police were looking for suspects and called on the public to provide information to arrest the culprits.
He called on people in the area to take their personal safety seriously by being aware of their environment so they do not fall prey to such scoundrels.
