The statement said, “Gang members forcibly raided the gold merchant’s residence at 9:00 p.m., disarmed the private security guard with his gun, and fired shots at the residence.”

“At this point, a police combat team who had set up round-the-clock surveillance on the gang responded to protect innocent lives in and around the property,” the statement said.

“Four of the suspects managed to escape but the two with gunshot wounds were arrested and sent to hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.”

One of the deceased thieves, known as Lukeman, had been released on bail by Dunkwa Circuit Court in an earlier appearance and was due to reappear on October 27, 2021 for allegedly stealing passengers on the Dunkwa highway -Ayanfuri.

Police suspect that some of the gang members who escaped may have been shot and wounded and therefore urge the public to report anyone with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.

“We therefore call on the public to voluntarily provide information on anyone seen in or around Manso Dawusaso with visible gunshot wounds to the nearest police station,” the statement said.

“In the meantime, health facilities in and around the southern district of Amansia are urged to immediately report to the police the presence of any individual or group of people with gunshot wounds.”

A hunting rifle, pistol and taxi recovered during the operation were taken into custody.
