ASHLEY COLE hinted that he would join Frank Lampard's backroom team in Chelsea, while he was heading to Japan, where the club is currently on pre-season touring.

The legendary left-back – who played under Lampard's command at Derby in 2018-2019 – has released an image of himself en route to the Far East on Instagram.

The Blues are currently touring in the Land of the Rising Sun, and the latest update suggests that Cole, 38, could land for a sensational return to Chelsea.

The former star of Arsenal and England withdrew from football at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Cole joined Lampard in Derby after the end of the MLS season, where he was playing for LA Galaxy.
