The Manchester United captain, Ashley Young, has been the subject of horrific racist abuse online after the release of the Champions League on Tuesday at the hands of Barcelona.
The tweets referring to Young as a "monkey" and using the keyword "no-word" were reported by the charity for football equality, Kick It Out, after the The 33-year-old had a disappointing night in United's 3-0 defeat in Barcelona.
Kick It Out has now asked Twitter to further fight racism after a series of high profile incidents on the social media site, including violence aimed at the international Englishman Raheem Sterling and the striker. Liverpool Mohamed Salah, among others.

A Twitter user called Young to "retire, young for a damn *****", others called him a "monkey"
In a statement, Kick It Out said: "Another black player, this time Ashley Young, victim of racist abuse on social media after tonight's Champions League game.
"Once again, we have to ask Twitter the same question: when will you take serious steps to fight endemic discrimination on your platform?"
Sportsmail has contacted Twitter, Manchester United and the Greater Manchester Police for comments.

Many high profile players have recently been victims of racist abuse.
A clip was widely broadcast online last week showing a group of six men in a bar chanting that Salah, a fervent Muslim, was "a suicide bombing" before Chelsea's Europa League match against Slavia Prague. Liverpool condemned the "unmixed fanaticism" aimed at his player.
Sterling was subjected to racist abuse while he was playing for England in Montenegro during qualifying at Euro 2020, while teammate Danny Rose said he was "impatient" "to retire because of discrimination.

Young, who endured a scorching night on the field in Barcelona, has not yet responded to the abuse, but his latest social media message to the match was a retweet from United imploring fans to unite to fight against discrimination.
