ORLANDO – Things are looking good for US Women's National Team goalkeeper Orlando Pride and Ashlyn Harris.
It's a World Cup year and is part of the USWNT goalie pool. A new coach is up for pride and she is excited to work with him. And, of course, she officially announced her engagement with Pride Defender Ali Krieger on Wednesday.
"It's like everything's magic," Harris told Pro Soccer USA during Pride Media Day.
"I'm just very happy, I live in the present moment and I take advantage of that because it never really happens. I feel that I am always stressed and that I am always worried about the World Cup and that I am always worried about Pride and that I take the time of my personal life and, for the moment, I am like at the top of the world. The couple announced their relationship via an article and photos in People magazine. The announcement was followed by a wave of support. Krieger and Harris said that USWNT coach Jill Ellis and US Football President Carlos Cordeiro were among those who praised them.

"Honestly, it was time. Feeling the support of the club and the American football and the messages and these different communities – some in which I am, some that I am not – the support is a very good feeling.
"It's something that should be celebrated. We fought hard to make this the norm and it's a special moment for us. I'm just excited to start the year and feel a sense, like that heaviness that just disappears.
"I've always felt that I did not live up to the expectations of my community and now I feel like I can be me. If I can be fully, 100% me, I'm a better person, you know? I am very happy. We are both."
Krieger said Harris and she had kept their relationship private, in order to maintain their professionalism.
The two players played together for the USWNT, winning a World Cup in 2015. They became Pride's teammates in 2017, when Krieger was traded to the Washington Spirit.
"You still want to live your life in an authentic way, but I'm very professional in my job, obviously, and I'm a very private person, so I've always struggled to, you know, spend my life at the university. Outside there, no matter who I go out with, "said Krieger.
"We just wanted to make sure our work came first. We never wanted to bother our teammates, the club or the organization we work for, and I think that was important to us, as well as to the national team. That's why we've always wanted to be professional. You know, it's not that we were hiding, it was just something we thought was important to do for a while. Now, I think it was the right time to open and be ourselves and really share our life with everyone. "
Both said they had concerns about sponsorship at the beginning of their relationship. The two met in 2010.
"But now that we are at the point where our lifestyle is really accepted and I think we are much more comfortable and confident in who we are, especially now with my age," said Krieger.
Laughing, she added, "I'm 34 years old and I do not care what people think."

Harris said the support was "unreal".
"We have been dating together for a very long time, we are engaged and we are making progress, we are building a future and, you know, we hope the kids will be in Pride's jersey," said Harris. "You know, we want people to share this with us, which is important because we love this place and we love Orlando and we want everyone to be part of it."
