He says the committee was set up to cover up government inefficiencies •
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the secretary general of the Democratic National Congress, berated Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso for his defense of certain observations and findings made by the three-member investigative committee into the Ejura chaos.
Asiedu Nketia believes that Dr. Antwi Danso’s position that the committee owes the family of late activist Ibrahim Mohammed (Macho Kaaka) no explanation for some of their report’s findings was undemocratic.
Asiedu Nketia told Adom TV that the Dean of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) was wrong in his statement.
“When Dr Vladimir Antwi Danso was asked about their findings, he said they were not allowed to question him. I’m shocked. Since when has it been a crime to question leaders about the decisions they make. If we are in a democracy and you claim that no one can criticize your work, then there is a problem. It comes from a professor in the era of democracy.
“When they asked him about Kaaka’s death, he said it was not on their terms. If the discovery of Kaaka’s death was not in your terms of reference, then why did you take it into account in your conclusions? It was either someone who added this track to the report or he did it himself. I don’t understand, “he said.
Asiedu Nketia who drilled holes in the committee’s work revealed his belief that it was set up as a defensive mechanism for the government.
He noted that the competence of the committee members and their performance in regards to the Ejura disruption gives him reason to believe that it was rigged with a predetermined agenda to whitewash the government.
“They did a cover-up job. The committee was formed to cover Kaaka’s death. Kaaka was exercising his democratic rights by speaking against the government, but in this government, critics can face any form of action. A journalist died and nothing was done about it.
“Soldiers went to media houses to attack journalists and nothing happened to them. Media houses were also closed and nothing happened. If we get to the stage where people are being murdered for speaking out, it gets out of hand. The international community has seen that Akufo-Addo does not practice democracy.
“They had to set up a committee to deceive people into believing that a non-partisan committee was set up to investigate the murder of Macho Kaaka. The committee was set up to cover up the weakness of the government, ”he said.
The committee in its report released last week. concluded that the likelihood that Macho Kaaka’s death was caused by his family outweighed the risk of murder due to his activism for good governance.
