Mustapha Hamid
Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid, Minister of Inner Cities and Development of Zongo, advised politicians, who are used to using Zongo youth to foment political violence, to instead use their close to this end.
He added that young people should be violent if those who ask for it have their loved ones in the foreground.
Speaking at the official launch of the Zongo Outreach Program on Peace, Non-Violence and Development, the Minister said that it is time for the leaders of the various Zongo communities to rise up and prevent the politicians to use their places as rogue recruiting centers or vigilantes. for political violence.
He advised the youth not to be blinded by party loyalty and to judge themselves, saying, "When they come to you, ask the politicians to bring their sons and daughters as well. In fact, the son of the politician should lead the attack, because it is a good thing for them. "
He also stressed the need to remove all narcotics from communities with the support of opinion leaders and security agencies.
CHRAJ boss Joseph Whittal, who attended the event, said the leaders could lead efforts to prevent Zongo youth from becoming vigilantes.
He urged young people to be more development-oriented and to take charge of, among other things, good education and improved sanitation.
Whittal also advised stakeholders to avoid early marriages, which he says are prevalent in Zongo communities. "We can not continue the age-old practice of neglecting the education of girls. We do not have to marry her too soon, "he said.
Lieutenant-Colonel Umar Sanda Ahmed (former diplomat), former ambbadador to Egypt, for his part attributed vigilantism to "misconduct" – a situation in which young children do not receive adequate education and family support .
Children, he says, become vulnerable and are easily recruited to engage in deviant behavior as they grow up.
