On Thursday, a London court found Julian Assange guilty of breaching bail conditions seven years ago and held him in custody pending his conviction.
The founder of Wikileaks, 47, will also be the subject of a separate hearing on May 2 following a request from the US to extradite him for alleged computer hacking.
Assange was arrested after officials had invited police to go to the Ecuadorian Embbady where Assange had asked for asylum.
The US authorities had until Thursday refused to confirm the reports that they had issued a sealed indictment against Assange.
The US Department of Justice said that Assange was accused of computer hacking conspiracy related to his work in March 2010 with former US intelligence badyst Chelsea Manning.
"Assange is charged with conspiracy to commit an intrusion into a computer and is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt," the US Department of Justice said in a statement. "If he is found guilty, he incurs a maximum penalty of five years in prison."
Assange will now be at the heart of a legal and diplomatic standoff confronting him, as well as his legions of supporters, to the US judicial system.

Javid said that complete extradition documents should be received by a judge within 65 days and then forwarded to the UK government for certification.
