VAR, the video-watching system that provoked chaotic scenes in the CAF Champions League final two months ago, will make its African Cup of Nations debut on Wednesday for the last eight clashes between Benin and Senegal in Egypt.

This technology has been used since the quarter-finals of the first football competition in Africa. Officials hope that the drama experienced in previous VAR games on the continent can be avoided.

The technology was to be used in the return leg of the CAF Champions League final between Esperance Tunis and Wydad Casablanca in Tunisia, but it did not work well before the kickoff.

Quarterfinal clashes

Two matches per day, overtime and penalties if there is no winner after 90 minutes.
