Aston Villa released eight players before their return to the Premier League, including defenseman Micah Richards and winger Albert Adomah.
The former English international Richards, 30, has not played since October 2016.
He joined Villa from Manchester City in 2015, but fell out of favor and made only 31 appearances in four years at Villa Park.
Mile Jedinak, Alan Hutton, Tommy Elphick, Glenn Whelan, Ritchie Laet and Mark Bunn were also released.
Adomah, 31, started Villa's final win against Derby, but Whelan, 35, and Jedinak, 34, were unused substitutes at Wembley.
Former Middlesbrough winger Adomah played 36 league games in 2018-2019, scoring four goals.
The Irish international Whelan has played 23 league games during the season. He had left Stoke in 2017 but had lost his place against Conor Hourihane during the last phases of the campaign.
Hutton made 33 starts but played only once after getting injured in February while Australian Jedinak debuted 12 times.
Goalkeeper Bunn played only once, Elphick played 11 games after being loaned to Hull for the first half of the season and De Laet was loaned to Melbourne City.
