Nana Somfowaa Durowaa III, queen mother of Asuano in the municipality of Wenchi, was found dead at the Droboso cemetery. Confirmed reports indicate that the queen mother committed suicide by hanging on a tree in the burial grounds.
According to sources, the queen mother would have disappeared about three days ago. Advertisements have been made on local radio stations. After days of research, she was unfortunately found dead in unthinkable circumstances.
The sad incident plunged Asuano residents and members of the traditional council into a state of shock and mourning.
The local deputy, Opoku Adjei, who was one of the first to see the dead body, quickly informed the traditional authorities of Asuano and Wenchi, as well as the police.
Police and traditional council members went to the scene and removed the body from the tree.
DAILY GUIDE learned that because of her status as queen mother, rites were performed and the body was quickly buried according to tradition.
Some members of the community wondered if the incident was a bad omen and an abomination for the community, because nothing like this had happened before.
Police in the region remain unobtrusive about the incident, although regional police spokesman – Chief Inspector Augustine Oppong – confirmed it.
He did however make other comments.
