Not long ago, the Wrestling Observer announced at WWE that a plan had been put in place to allow Asuka to fight against Lacey Evans for the Women's SmackDown Championship at WrestleMania 35. Shortly after, they said that it seemed that these plans had been abandoned. Rumor has it that despite being less than a month away from the big show, no plan has been set for her.
Remember when she typed Becky Lynch to Royal Rumble?
The defense of this decision by those who supported it at the time was that it would not hurt Lynch (it was not) and that it would legitimize the race for Asuka. while giving him a boost.
In reality, all of Asuka's run with the Women's SmackDown Championship has been to support other stories. Lynch, with Charlotte Flair, the first two stars of the blue brand, focus entirely on Ronda Rousey, champion of Monday evening. Asuka did not even work the series to Chamber of elimination, taking the backseat of women's team titles. AT Expressway, she again played a supporting role in the ongoing story of Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, which was approaching a breakup.
Now, there are no clear plans for her or obvious direction for the biggest professional wrestling show of the year. Even if she makes the card, it could very well be a pre-show level match. It does not seem right.
And this victory over Royal Rumble against Lynch is even more disconcerting now that we've seen how the WWE used it.
Asuka deserves better.
